Since it wasn't too far away, Mike and I took a road trip during our honeymoon to visit New Orleans! Neither one of us had been there before, so we had a blast checking out all the places we had heard of before but never seen.
First stop -- lunch! We checked out Central Grocery thanks to a tip from my good friend Andrew and were served this ENORMOUS muffaletta by a scary looking Italian man with absolutely no people skills. His fingerless black gloves appeared to confirm my suspicion that he was in the mafia. Creepy man, but very, very good sandwich. Add onto that the fact that we're eating this enormous heap of Italian deliciousness on a park bench by the river with the steamboat playing music in the back ground, making it oh-so idyllic.
Here we are trying to take a picture of ourselves with the St. Louis Cathedral in the background.
Since our arms weren't quite long enough, here's a shot of the cathedral by itself. SO beautiful!
I couldn't resist taking a picture of this drunken street performer who kept singing "When the Saints Go Marching In" over and over. In case you can't tell, that's a small brown paper sack in his hand.
Our favorite part of New Orleans might just have been the food. We were told our trip would not be complete without a visit to Cafe Du Monde. Thanks again to Andrew for the tip!
YUM!
We also went on a buggy tour of the city and it was really nice to get a city tour. We did a lot of walking around, but this helped get us started and provided some really pretty views!
We had a really great time visiting...and conveniently checked out by around 4:30pm. Bourbon Street was already starting to live up to its name by 3pm, and let's face it, Mike and I are not "night life" people. haha. Still, we had a TON of fun walking around and seeing all the sights. Mike also bargained for me a fantastic pair of flor de lis earrings from the open market. All in all - wonderful visit!
I'm glad you enjoyed New Orleans. The beignets look delicious. Miss you!
